Perennial garden plants

Perennial garden plants are those that grow and flower from the same root or bulb for several years. Almost all of these perennials are hardy and grow beautifully without special care. The category of perennial garden plants includes the rose, but also the tulip, lilies and hyacinths, hydrangea, peony and gladioli.

Perennial plants are also snowdrops and crocuses. Some bloom in the first year after planting, others only in the second year of life when they reach maturity (rose, hydrangea, lilies). The good part about them is that they don't need to be replanted, the bad part is that the flowering period is usually short.

The solution is to combine them so that you can enjoy flowers in the garden all the time.

Another characteristic of these perennial garden plants is that they have colorful flowers, that the color palette is diverse for each flower variety, and the flowers are very fragrant. The law of compensation and the principle of balance in nature work perfectly in their case. Relatively short duration of flowers is compensated by resistance and ability to bloom year after year, fragrance and color.

Perennial garden plants they are the best choice for those who want a colorful garden without having to plant flowers every year.  There are also perennial garden plants whose flowers last a long time or which bloom several times. The rose is the best example.  Instead, tulips bloom for a short period of time, spring. So are daffodils and hyacinths. The category of delicate spring flowers also includes lilies of the valley, some of the most fragrant perennial garden plants.

The hydrangea, however, blooms in early summer and remains full of flowers until mid-August. Likewise Echinacea it is very colorful, blooms several times from July to October and is also a wonderful medicinal plant. Dahlias are admirable for the color and beauty of their flowers, plus their relatively long bloom duration, although they produce only one flower each year, as is typical of garden perennials.  All of these garden perennials have in common that they are a little picky and tolerate the sun well.  They don't have any demands on the soil, they need water, but because they have strong and often deep roots, they also withstand dry periods well.

The only care you need to take if you have a perennial garden is to remove weeds, aerate the soil from time to time and fertilize the soil once or twice a year, spring or fall.
