About this plant

Cupressocyparis – spiral form is a spectacular ornamental variant, obtained by pruning and artistic modeling, highly appreciated in modern gardens, representative entrances, terraces and commercial spaces.

 General description

Cupressocyparis (hybrid between cypress and thuja) is a fast-growing evergreen conifer. The spiral shape is not a natural one, but is achieved by regular cuts, which highlight the vertical and elegant silhouette of the plant.

 Dimensions

  • Delivery height: usually 120–200 cm (can grow larger over time)

  • Width: 40–80 cm, depending on the size and density of the spiral

  • Growth: fast, requires constant maintenance to keep in shape

 Foliage

  • Color: deep green to silver-green (depending on variety)

  • Persistent all year round

  • Fine texture, very decorative

 Exposure

  • Prefer full sun

  • Tolerate and penumbra, but the spiral shape holds up better in good light

 Soil

  • Well drained

  • Fertile, slightly acidic to neutral

  • It does not tolerate excess water at the root

 Watering

  • Regulated in the first years after planting

  • After stabilization, it is relatively resistant to drought

  • In pots: more frequent watering, especially in summer

 Maintenance

  • Trim 2–3 times a year to maintain the spiral

  • Light pruning is recommended, without going into old wood

  • Fertilize in spring for color and density

Resistance

  • Good frost resistance

  • In areas with harsh winters, potted plants protect themselves

 Use in landscaping

  • Decorative solitary plant

  • House entrances, alleys, terraces

  • Large pots, architectural accent projects

  • Very suitable for commercial premises and hotels
