Pinus densiflora 'Thunderhead' (red Japanese pine – cultivar)

Pinus ‘Thunderhead’ is a small ornamental conifer, highly prized for its compact form and dense, sculptural crown.

Main features:

• Dimensions: grows slowly; reaches approx 2–3 m high and 1.5–2 m wide at maturity

• Form: rounded to irregular, very dense

• Needles: dark green, rigid, grouped in pairs, shorter than the classic densiflora pine

• Buds: large, whitish ("candles"), very decorative in spring

• Bark: reddish brown, decorative with age
