Pinus ‘Green Column’

Pinus mugo 'Green Column' is a special decorative conifer, appreciated for its narrow columnar port – a rare form of mountain pine, very useful in modern arrangements and limited spaces.

Main features

• Port: columnar, vertical, compact

• Dimensions at maturity:

  • height: 2–3 m (sometimes up to 4 m, in long time)

  • width: 0.6–1 m

• Growth: slow to moderate

• Needles: intense green, rigid, short, persistent all year

• Appearance: very tidy, stable, without frequent trimming

Cultivation requirements

• Exposure: full sun (also tolerates partial shade, but the form is better in the sun)

• Soil: well drained; it adapts to poor, sandy or stony soils

• Watering: moderate; once established it is very resistant to drought

• Frost resistance: very good (–30 °C)

• Wind and pollution resistance: excellent

Maintenance

• Very easy

• Does not require trimming; the buds ("candles") can be pinched in the spring only if additional growth control is desired

• It has no special fertilization requirements
